Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Best K-12 Outreach and Most Active Organization, 2017-18 SOAR Awardee

Congrats to Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers for earning the Best K-12 Outreach and the Most Active Organization 2017-2018 Student Organization Awards & Recognition (SOAR) award! They were recognized at the SOAR ceremony on April 25, 2018 for their accomplishments.

They inspired kids to explore STEM by hosting/supporting the following events: Noche de Ciencias – at Lowell Elementary, Metro Tech High School, Phoenix Coding Academy, and Western Valley Middle school – they impacted an estimated 115 students and 45 parents. They also created a network within their community to foster lifelong friendships and integrate everyone within their ASU familia, raised more than $1000 for Spike it for Charity, marketed through different social media platforms, postcards, and tabling at various events. They had 150+ new members subscribed to the newsletter, 128 attended general body meetings, and 65+ became chapter members. Peer mentoring was the main priority, example: Semana de Estudios and The Annual Graduate Panel.

This award earned the organization $600 in funding that will go toward organization needs.
