Congrats to Daniel Tran for earning the Outstanding Fulton Student Organization Graduate Emerging Leader 2017-2018 Student Organization Awards & Recognition (SOAR) award! They were recognized at the SOAR ceremony on April 25, 2018 for their accomplishments.
As one of the team members shared, “Daniel Tran has been a critical component of our leadership team this semester; moreover, he has gone above and beyond in his efforts to build INFORMS as an academic community staple at large, and as a key resource for PhD students in Industrial Engineering. (1) Daniel has been one of the most reliable officers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. He consistently makes himself available for off-schedule meetings, offers to complete tasks and does so at an incredibly high level, and brings a unique combination of practical event planning insight with charisma. (2) Daniel, as a first year PhD student going through adjustment struggles first hand, has spearheaded an initiative to condense meaningful resource materials and compile a first draft of “The First Year PhD Student’s Survival Guide to Classes, Research, and Qualifying Examinations.” This manual is a resource that we will share with all new first year students. (3) He had the vision for and completely owned our first ever Graduate Student Discussion Panel session. He applied for and received outside funding for this event from GPSA. He found effective panelists to agree to be a part of the event, and served as the discussion moderator creating a list of deep questions.
As one of the team members shared, “Daniel is a natural-born innovator. He is creative in the way he addresses problems that our organization faces and is mindful of how his decisions affect the people around him.”
This award earned the organization $300 in funding that will go toward organization needs.
