On Tuesday, April 21 at the Student Organization Awards & Recognition (SOAR) Ceremony, Jennifer Grijalva took home the award for Outstanding Emerging FSO Leader. Jennifer is currently the Outreach Coordinator for MAES, Latinos in Science and Engineering.

Every year, MAES at ASU hosts an event called Science Extravaganza. This event invites K-12 kids from under-privileged schools to participate in science and engineering related activities. This year, Jennifer took on the enormous task of planning, organizing, and coordinating the entire event. The event hosted over 70 students and, thanks to Jennifer, was a raging success this year.

The Science Extravaganza is a huge way in which MAES gets future generations involved with and excited about science and engineering. By ensuring the event’s success, Jennifer helped her organization to give back to their community and grow as a club. In her time with MAES, Jennifer will continue to fulfill her role as Outreach Coordinator and help MAES attain their community goals.

The current president of MAES is Dennis Amparo, and the advisor is Jennifer Velez.
