Their story: “Formula SAE is one of the best hands-on engineering projects available for students at Arizona State University to get involved with. From the ground up, we build a one-off, entirely student designed formula style race car. As you can imagine, building something to the magnitude of a race car requires a lot of time, effort and money. The greatest challenge for the team is finding the resources available to actually put this car together. Members of the team break down the barrier from books–to reality. By applying concepts, computational skills, and the latest engineering techniques learned in the classroom, we’re capable of designing a real-life product of engineering. Much of the actual engineering has been done, but bringing the computer drawings and calculations to life requires materials, sensors, tires, brakes, and much more.”
