For Global Resolve, spring break is a time to serve abroad. The student org is currently in Oropesa, Peru building an aquaponics farm for a local orphanage, while simultaneously offering STEM-learning opportunities to local residents.
Aquaponics is a system for farming fish and plants together in a mutually beneficial cycle—fish produce waste, which fertilizes plants, and the plants in-turn purify the water for the fish. The aquaponics farm will provide food sources such as potatoes, tomatoes and fish to be used and sold.
The project aims to improve the orphanage’s living conditions and provide funds so that more orphans can be taken in. The project team departed March 6 and will return March 15.
Last year, Global Resolve built a greenhouse for the orphanage that continues to be beneficial and successful.
Global Resolve promotes social entrepreneurship through projects that directly improve the lives of underprivileged people and nations. Bringing together students, faculty, international universities, residents of rural villages, local governments, NGOs, and financial institutions—Global Resolve is implementing innovative technological solutions to alleviate socio-economic hardships.
